Moorefield Park

Social Learning Hub

Officially Opens

On Monday, 21 December 2020, ConneXtions officially opened the doors to it's new premises at Moorefield Park, Wodonga.

Throughout the entire year the team worked determinedly throughout the challenges of pandemic and border closure to deliver on our most ambitious project to date.

The Moorefield Park Social Learning Hub in Wodonga is now open and accepting expressions of interest from NDIS participants.

Behaviour Practitioner Kristen Ody, Manager of the ConneXtions Practice and Assessment Team says the multidisciplinary team takes an innovative approach to working with people with disabilities to engage in social skills development.

“Since our early beginnings, we have recognised that the way to provide support to families requires both a different and individual approach,” Ms Ody said.

“We encourage social learning for children and adults by engaging in activities that are based on their interests and are focused on developing new skills, social competence, emotional regulation and relationships with others.”

The purpose-built facility at Moorefield Park includes an acrobatics, circus arts, sensory and movement room, a kitchen and small group inside and outside spaces that encourage participants, staff and family to interact together.

ConneXtions participants are offered opportunities for learning and growth via innovative small social groups such as circus arts, music, LEGO, minecraft and other engaging activities once their assessment and individual skill development plan has been completed. It is also now the home of internationally accredited and recognised social skills programs PEERS® and Secret Agent Society.

Executive Director of the not-for-profit organisation, Toni Reeves, is thrilled to be able to expand options for social learning and skills development programs locally where people can achieve real outcomes through real opportunities to learn, develop and grow.

“Moorefield Park is about providing opportunities to develop and practice social thinking, interpersonal skills and gain greater social and emotional competence with a focus on fun!” Ms Reeves said.
