The Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS®) is world-renowned for providing evidence-based social skills treatment to preschoolers, adolescents, and young adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety, depression, and other socio-emotional problems.
First developed at UCLA by PEERS® Clinic director, Dr. Elizabeth Laugeson, the program has expanded to locations across the United States, has been translated into over a dozen languages, and is used in over 80 countries across the globe.
ConneXtions have launched the program in Wodonga and are running two groups; PEERS® for Teens and PEERS® for Young Adults. The program set to help participants who are motivated to learn ways to help make and keep friends and focuses on the following key areas:
Self-awareness: Identifying and recognising emotions; recognising personal interests and strengths; maintaining a well-grounded sense of self-confidence.
Self-management: Regulating emotions, stress, and impulse control, motivating and overcoming obstacles, setting and monitoring personal goals; expressing emotions appropriately.
Social awareness: Being able to take the perspective of and empathise with others; recognising and appreciating individual and group similarities and differences.
Relationship skills: Establishing and maintaining healthy and rewarding relationships based on cooperation and resistance to inappropriate social pressure, preventing, managing, and constructively resolving interpersonal conflict; seeking help when needed
